It IS stupid BUT until judges are more consistent, it would stink to be the best drums out there, then that only judge who scores you lower is the finals judge. We all know that exists, even though some of the time it is a performance issue, or a different corps lineup, but take those instances out and there's still a lot of variance in opinion between judges and the outliers become obvious.

For the time being, I would say SCV... for the whole wash.  But it's too soon to give a good guess.

Not Stupid to average because Three judges and their individual taste get to make the choice... Not just the lucky chosen one on finals night..

What the Chief Judge should be emphasizing to the Caption judges though is to make sure that they are uncapping their Scores starting on Prelims night.. Meaning that the winner on Prelims night gets just a high a score if it was Finals night, so that each judge has equal merit in the averaging of the scores..

We've seen the perfect score on Prelims night during some of the dominant BD years... but in years where the Captions are split up between corps the scores are usually not up at the max..

to quote the late, great Sherman T. Potter:

HORSE HOCKEY!!  I'll throw in a MULE FRITTERS! TOO

YOU'RE the CHAMPION....yet you win that sheet Thursday and Friday, but not Saturday??? the judges job is to judge their sheet, and the show of the day and rank and rate accordingly. You don't have a good finals night...you shouldn't win. See crown 15, same applies for captions. If you're a fan of straight line slotted judging, sure this model works, but the judging system isn't set up to be that way, nor should it.
