Judges wandering on field

Two yards isn't the numbers from the sidelines. (That's about 9 - 10 yards). When the guy was routinely out that far (and more), it's clear that he was well beyond any perception of 2 yards.

Worse, he was within moving forms the exact reason DCI enacted the rule change.

DCI really needs to train and critique these guys - pretty close to a couple of bad guard accidents.

from what I understand, much training as given. the rule change is less than popular in some judging circles. Some instructors circles too.

Dear Lord I think judges know what 2 yards is.  You’re always going on about how professional percussion judges are but they can’t figure out two yards?   drummers

ok so when you marched, and were told "get two yards off the sideline...if it wasn't marked, would you know? They are human like us. To them yard lines run across the field end zone to end zone and are marked with little white strips except the one every 5 yards.

Sure would. Virtually everyone who has marched knows what an 8 to 5 feels like.  Not hard to keep yourself in the 2 yard zone. Besides halfway to the numbers is WAY more than 2yds. This is exactly why this rule change was passed.  “Oh we’re very professional and extremely aware of our surroundings  but if you don’t mark the 2yard boundary we have no idea where we are”.   Dear sweet Jesus save us from all drummers.

AK knows a thing or two about retrieving dropped drum equipment and getting it back into the hands of its rightful owner. 💪 Great vision and situational awareness.

It was Allen Kristensen. He’s been at this for a long time, so it doesn’t surprise me if he’s played fast and loose with the new rule.

It didn't look like Allen Kristensen. Guess I will have to look at the judges list. Nora Jones was definitely there.

Obviously DCI needs to give that judge a two point penalty. :spitting:

Kristensen is an experienced judge. If he ventured outside the magical 2 yard boundary, it’s because he found something worth listening to.

He will be judging percussion long after this arbitrary boundary is revised. So he might as well give the best critique possible 🙂
