IS THE 35 YARD LINE THE NEW 50?

Recommended Posts

Why are we seeing so many shows this season that have the corps performing most of the drill on the right side of the 50 yard line.  These corps have moved the pit out of the pit, or they have combined it with stages and props on the left side of the 50.   Anyone who failed to get their dream ticket on the 50 yard line and instead got a seat on the 35 yard line are pretty happy right now.... but only if they are on the "right" side of the field.   Is this just a coincidence or will we see more of this type of design in future shows.  Is the 35 yard line really the new 50?

This could be the way some corps are adapting to the rule changes for judges.  The risk is the timing issue of not having the pit allow the rest of the corps "play-thru" the pit. I noticed this issue during the first week as multiple corps were having significant timing issues.

I noticed this too and told my friends that we were lucky to be right of the 50 in Lynn, MA.  I was thinking it might be due to fact that the right side (from the audience perspective ) of Lucan Oil Stadium stops at the top of the seats with a wall of windows.   Whereas the left side is open to the escalators, etc.  So maybe they want to use the concert hall effect of a solid background to hit the stands with volume and GE from the horns.

Right handed bias in drill writers?  Or it could just be a coincidence 😜

In any case Crown's ballad will give the side 1 audience plenty of love 😍

The BD 17 ballad was primarily between the 20 and 35.  The folks in front of the brass loved it.
