My school has hosted drum corps in the past.  Though smoking is not allowed on campus, people are welcome to smoke just outside of the area.  Many years ago I witnessed members smoking outside the school's main doors.  I have seen this happen anymore.  My biggest concern when I witness a corps member being so intoxicated that he peed on a building wall one night.

Banning smoking seems a little much? I know it’s not a healthy choice but it’s just that, their choice.

So isn’t marching with a corps. In mentioning this I am not saying it’s a good idea for a corps to ban smoking, but marching in a corps is a privilege.

Absolutely true, of course. Do corps permit members to leave the property of their housing site? In the scholastic band world I have been involved with for decades, we never let members leave the property if we were on the road, as the school/staff is responsible for the safety of all the students. Corps may operate differently.

I remember that the high school I attended there was an outdoor (between 2 buildings) smoking area for students.  The idea was to keep smoking out of the restrooms.

I bet I could count on one hand the number of US high schools that have student smoking area these days.
