Or do you mean the rest of the Blue Knights corps? If the former, you're correct on the theory, but the evidence says they are not struggling compared to everyone else. In overall visual, they're in 7th place. that's hardly a deep hole. last year, BK visual was lagging the top-12 pack, so they've improved their comparative placement by a few spots. They're not going to win the Zingali, but they've definitely upped their game. I mean, if by "struggling" you mean anything below medal contention, then yeah, they're struggling. And I'm confident the BK team has greater visual ambitions than what they're achieving at the moment. But the evidence doesn't support the assertion that visual continues to be an anchor dragging them down. Not at this point of this season, anyway. If the latter, you might have more of a case. Total visual has been consistently providing 29 - 30 percent of BK's total score since the beginning of the season. The average change in visual score from show to show has been +1.8 percent, whereas the average change in total score from show to show has been +1.9 percent. You could, I suppose, point to that and say visual is slowing down the corps, but that's a mighty fine hair to split, IMO Here is the strongest evidence for your assertion: Among the current top 12, there are only two corps whose total-visual ranking is lower than their total-score ranking: Mandarins, and Blue Knights. In each case, the TV rank is one rung lower than the TS rank. (Only two corps, Cadets and Crossmen, have TV rankings that are one place higher than their TS rankings; for the remaining 8 corps, TV and TS ranks match). Okay. That's a valid point. But consider: last year, BK finished the season with a TV ranking that was two rungs lower than its TS rank. This year, at this point, it's one. Is that dramatic improvement? No. But BK's disparity between TV and TS rankings is now within the standard range. At finals 2018, only BK had a two-rung difference between TV and TS rank; all others had 0 or +/- 1. Now BK is squarely within the pack. That might not qualify as super-strong visual, but it also does not qualify as "struggling." BK is doing fantastic in all of their captions but you can't deny that the visual side is lagging behind everything else, again BK beat Cadets in Proficiency and Analysis, but had a .4 drop in their guard score from Ogden. The Proficiency and Analysis scores are .1 from being exactly what The Cavaliers got at their last show. Their right there .2 below Boston in Prof as well.

No matter what color or design is printed on them, at least a third of it always gets wiped out by a blinding white flash. How is that effective design? You have to pretend like it isn't happening? They can work in smaller indoor environments with different lighting and viewing angle conditions, but outdoors (or in a domed stadium)? Yeeesh. That does not matter. Tarps are a product offering from manufacturers who are "partners" with DCI. Such products, just like the frequently malfunctioning electronics, are given free passes in competitive judging. That is how the marching arts industrial complex works.

SCV should have bought them from Carolina Crown who manufactures good tarps.

Until that point, it looked like there would be two shows that year without a title. I remember watching a Fan Network video from one of the winter camps where the corps director basically said they just selected some music they liked and the theme/show title will be figured out later.

Blue Stars' construction tarps were all but invisible in Lucas last year and whatever big one Crossmen used in a previous year was a blinding mess of white glare. Until the vendors develop a matte coating of some sort, these things are never going to work as intended. Preach!
