Luckily our band and winterguard programs are more successful than our football team. 🙂 Heh. When my sister was in band (Indiana) the custom was to do the halftime show and leave so you could rest before the show trip the next morning. They started making the band stay because between the band and band parents that was like 750 people leaving. The football team would come out and feel demoralized their crowd was gone. In my time there were some ugly bullying incidents in the band hall from football players. And the AD just shrugged it off. Our band director said, “Ok, you’ve got a Saturday game and we have two competitions scheduled that day, we’ll just skip the game.” AD freaks out. Principal gets involved. Football meatheads get told off, made to apologize to the whole band, and told to stay outta the band hall. We swept awards at both shows and marched into the stadium that night playing parade tune (usually we entered on a click) with four drum majors and four guard members holding two trophies each. Football team lost their 6th straight game that night. Edited July 19, 2019 by KVG_DC 3

But how often are the Marching Band Programs seen as mere auxiliries of the passions of Texans, Football? BAND is big in Texas and, at most schools, not mere auxiliaries to the football team. State of the art auditoriums, equipment, rehearsal facilities, staff, instruments, etc.
