I remember when that was announced and I thought "ugh. this will be terrible. And they had something going with Vanity Fair last year." But they sold it and it worked! I was singing Supercalifragilisticexpalidocious along with them by season's end. But yeah, The Academy left that 'quirky and cute' thing behind. They tried keeping it and upping the content difficulty with By a Hare, but seemed to struggle with going "all in" on the lightheartedness through the season. MCDC has sort of inherited that mantle with their move up to WC with the Casey Jones show and now all the Mice. I love Poppins. I just watched Mary Poppins Returns last night. So I liked the Poppins show.

At DCI West last month, the Mandarins got a huge ovation -- probably the loudest crowd response of the night (helped that much of the audience was split evenly between BD and SCV partisans who come together to cheer on the Mandarins). Also helps that the Mandarins' show just grabs the audience's attention, and the corps members sell it big time. My impression was that the show was very ragged around the edges, but had a lot of room for growth. For decades, they were the little corps that could. Now, they're competing with the big guns and riding a huge wave of momentum that has been years in the making.

And SCV being good but not considered a top 3 for a long time. But nothing like The Cadets. This is a big free fall. Who knows where the Cadets would be if the GH scandal didn’t happen. Of course he needed to go but the effects of it are coming forward. Ok, remember, this show from the Cadets could actually break 90. They're not that far from 90 as of yesterday. I know, it's still catastrophic for the organization, but 90 and above is fantastic.
