Like I said, only "effects" and "spoken word" can be pre-recorded.

Your apprehensions confuse me, dear.  Everyone knows that singing is just sustained talking.

The School Board demonstrates:

The stakeholders have worked hard to bring the drumcorps idiom to a place that welcomes the innovative possibilities for other performing ensembles like the symphony orchestra, wind ensemble, symphonic band, brass ensemble, string ensemble, percussion ensemble, chamber ensemble(s)... where the ensemble is generally defined but never prohibited from electronic instrument integration, reinforcement, unique instrument additions and technological experimentation... all in the interest of music.

Why should there be a rule to prohibit the possibilities that absolutely every other idiom enjoys given the free will of a composer or arranger?

The horse is out of the stable. DCI's not gonna put it back in

The crazy thing with Crown is, that while it was super risky to devote half of a show to a featured vocalist, the fact that her mic went haywire on the most important night of the summer didn't effect their music scores at all.

That is how the system works.  All the electronics, props, tarps, costumes, and other manufactured add-ons to the activity are awarded credit for whatever "effect" the judging community assigns them.  That credit stays in place due to slotting, and on any given day when such a device fails (or is omitted due to field conditions), no change from scoring pattern occurs on that account.  DCI would not want to discourage the manufacturers (many of whom they have deemed "strategic partners") by calling out their products when they fail.

Now, moving away from live vocal solos to pre-recorded versions is just fine.  After all, the same manufacturers are behind it either way.

at finals, one of the music effect judges had them 5th, the other 3rd with room. at semis they were both 3rd with room on effect. the MA caption is the eyebrow raiser to me. even with the issues, no one was going to challenge them from below, so it was a matter of how far to keep them down from the top

The mic failed in semis too.

i mentioned both days. and as I said, the spreads were enough to ensure they would not be fighting for second, and the corps below them weren't going to catch up

Any idea which state this was as this is priceless! Thinking of Sr Yankee Rebels with “The Stripper” but they were an American Legion Corps.

Here is a historical link:

I'm going to make a blind guess: Crazy Florida and I'm thinking of Hy Dritzer with Skliners when he played his solo in concert.

And yes, Yankee Rebels.
