Keep in mind during the first two weeks of the season, the West has shows only on the weekend available to them. Note that SCV has the same number of shows as BD. BC has four shows more. I didn’t look at any others. 1

Yeah even though BD does perform in fewer shows than most, they still are very much comparable. They just strategically schedule their shows a certain way. If I have time I'll update this post with the exact number of shows per corps in the top

From what I know about BD as a support fan, they are based in Concord, Ca which has a population of 128,726 as of (2016). In the past they have had major financial corporate sponsors like Bank of America, Chevron and others. In addition, they run 2 Bingo games in 2 cities plus they have an interest in System Blue which is a instrument manufacturer which bases its designs heavily on BD's input. On the other side of the ledger, they support a number of groups in their organization besides the 3 drum corps (A + B + C). I cannot even imagine what BD's yearly operating budget must be as a C503 organization. Looking at their staff, they have 5-6 arrangers just for the A corps. Take a look at this staff list: Shaun Gallant Office CEO David Gibbs Office Senior Executive Advisor Kathy Serksnis Office Chief Operating Officer Bret Rios Office Director of Gaming Debbie Odello Office Administration Lainey Braatz Office Director of Services Terry Maurer Office Director of Transportation Trevon Hayes Office Transportation Manager Brian Haslanger Office Art & Web Director Jennifer Lowe Office Director of Communications Teresa Saunders Office Director of Community Outreach & Development Catherine Connolly Office Fund Development Consultant Lynn Upchurch Office Fund Development Consultant 2019 A Corps Staff Patrick Seidling Office Corps Director Sheryl Miles Office Corps Manager Kristen Lichtenthal Office Corps Manager Cameron Guerrero Office Corps Manager Scott Chandler Guard Program Coordinator - Choreographer Jay Murphy Visual Designer and Caption Head Dave Glyde Percussion Music Director and Arranger Scott Johnson Percussion Arranger/Caption Head Brian Dinkel Percussion Front Ensemble Arranger / Caption Head Fred Smith Electronics Sound Designer Wayne Downey Brass Creative Consultant Tony Smith Visual Consultant/Designer Karl Lowe Visual Consultant/Designer Jaime Holly Visual Caption Head / Designer John Meehan Brass Caption Head / Arranger James Rocillo Brass Instructor Steve Vento Brass Instructor Anthony Lanzino Brass Instructor Keith Dunton Brass Instructor Alex Blue V Brass Instructor Nicholas Garcia Brass Instructor Joseph Falvey Brass Instructor Suzanne Dell Brass Instructor Mike Ary Brass Instructor Ben Vasko Brass Instructor Gregory Horner Brass Instructor Taylor Wyatt Brass Instructor Albert Vela Brass Instructor Joe Haworth Brass Instructor Lisa Tatum Brass Instructor Paul Tucker Brass Instructor Ben Maughmer Percussion Instructor Rudy Garcia Percussion Instructor Nicholas Arce Percussion Instructor Nicholas Parsons Percussion Instructor Sean Clark Percussion Instructor Jack Mizutani Percussion Instructor Justin Sun Percussion Instructor Hector Prado Percussion Instructor Marisa Spevak Percussion Instructor Danny Gutierrez Percussion Instructor Geoff Schoeffel Electronics Audio Manager Michael Dunwoody Electronics Sound Tech Alan Han Electronics Sound Tech Shawn Glyde Percussion Drum Set Arranger/Advisor Todd Ryan Visual Caption Head/Marching Instructor John Bradford Visual Movement Ken Karlin Visual Instructor Peter Beckhart Visual Instructor Brandon Wickham Visual Instructor Ben Henderson Visual Instructor Chris Carrasco Visual Visual - Movement Katherine Sullivan Visual Instructor Clark Cothran Visual Instructor Zachary Carrasco Visual Instructor Darren Stack Visual Prop/Set Fabricator TJ Doucette Guard Instructor Robby Jacobson Guard Instructor David Ziehm Guard Instructor Shavon Garcia Guard Instructor Tracy Higgins Guard Instructor Jazz Legaspi Guard Instructor Jose Pena Guard Instructor Alyssa Citero Guard Instructor And I believe this list does not include all the support Techs who assist the A corps Perhaps one of the Ex-Blue Devils could correct this info or add to this list

And those are additional reasons why the winning score will likely be held back from the record high. The only way to beat the record is to sweep the captions. this is shaping up to be another 2008...BD visual, now Bloo music...GE calls the show
Old Corps Guy
I have to admit that Blackbird is far from the top of my favorite Beatles songs. However, it is becoming my favorite part of the Bluecoats show this year.

There is a lot of visual dirt though. Wish they could figure out how to clean that up. It seems likes an issue every season around this time of year. Noticed some new drill elements, -- eg turning backfield at start of Hurt, some new work in the guard, and the post-closer tag -- so my guess is they've been taking on board a lot of new information and still are getting their heads around it. Agree that they need to get the corners squared, the rotating boxes trued up, and the various seams and bubbles ironed out. I have no clue what BK staff/vets have planned for the final push, but it seems to me they have the music, MA, the GE and even the visual MA scores they need, and if they can just really tighten the screws on the individual visual stuff, they'll be maxing out the show by quarterfinals. Keep something in mind. All these people may not be paid staff. It is not uncommon for non profits to include as staff people with expertise who volunteer their time.
