do the variations in tee shirts denote anything about total years of membership?

Not necessary total. But they do all happen to be wearing the battery shirt of their first year with bluecoats.

Whatever it is, they'll be doing it with a 100% vet snareline.

And you can tell it's a battery just by looking at their feet. I tried to stand "straight footed" once and almost fell over.

All BC vets or some from other corps? How many others auditioned for the line?

No idea in audition numbers. Every single young man in that picture has marched Bluecoats at least one year. Hence ... all of them wearing their previous battery sections shirts. I'm not sure how to be more clear?

They have 1 fourth year, 4 third years, and 4 second year vets.

Here are the years that they marched with BC and then an educated guess about how many seasons they have left after 2020 (From left to right) :

David Parker : 19, 20 ; 1

Sebastian Martinez : 19, 20 ; 3

David Ware : 18, 19, 20 ; 1

Zach Wilson : 18, 19, 20 ; 1

Jared Baltazar : 17, 18, 19, 20 ; 0

Taylor McBride : 18, 19, 20 ; 0

Dawson King : 17, 18, 20 ; 0

Zach Plahitko : 19, 20 ; 1

Chris Jackson : 19, 20 ; 1

I think Bluecoats battery has fallen off since 2016 - I'm really hoping they get a book that will feature them more -

comparing The Bluecoats, Session 44 even Jagged Line to Tilt, Kinetic and Downside up there seems to be a drop off in terms of the musical vehicle for the battery --

I think Bluecoats are at a crossroad in 2020 - the whiplash style/identity confusion is getting difficult for fans to follow - I don't expect 'Coats going back to some sort of old school style but some sort of stability in terms of identity would be nice --

Not winning in 2019 with The Bluecoats was disappointing - I'm sure the 'Coats will medal again in '20, but it's going to be hard to follow up such an iconic show -
