Staff merry-go-round

Recommended Posts

Yeah, it's true. Ward Miller is no longer with the Blue Stars. I read a post from him and he left the corps on good terms; he even told the members to remain with the corps. That's a really big hit for the brass section and the corps. He did wonders for the hornline and took it to  a new level with a fantastic sound. Whoever replaces him will have a pretty big task to keep that section at such a high level. With such a significant departure; I fear the Blue Stars will now be trying to find a way to remain a Top 12 finalist.

It happened in the reverse from Phantom to SCV in 2011, though in the percussion section.

I'm not sure brass would be so tied to an arranger.

Shaw did turn around SCVs brass fairly quickly, so...........

If that "confirmation" about the Blue Stars is true; that's a really big hit for not only their brass section; but for the corps as a whole. Last year it seemed like they finally had a staff in place that was going to get them someplace other the lower tier of the Top 12. If what was mentioned is true; they will now find themselves trying to find a way to remain in the Top 12.

It might be a hit but Blue Stars are resilient. I trust Brad Furlano et al.

So if Shaw and others rumored going to PR happens it would be nice to see what they do with the corps as is.  The MM made great progress with the POS show they were given this year.  They grew tremendously to be so young.  Would love to watch the new staff grow them into a top 5 contender.

Having maybe better talent to start with helped .

huh? In 2011, SCV finished in 7th and PR in 6th. In the year prior, the results were the same.

Not sure where you're getting the idea that SCV started out with better talent in 2012, both the corps were placing fairly similarly and PR had won a championship just 3 years prior to Shaw leaving whereas SCV last had won in 1999.

Important note for purveyors of this thread: Chip was not Caption Head at SCV. He was Caption SUPERVISOR. This is public knowledge for anyone who wishes to check out scvanguard, org.

But another important note for purveyors of this thread: losing your caption supervisor is a huge deal.

He had top billing in the brass instructional staff, and there was otherwise no "caption head."
