OK, great, but how exactly do you score a 10.0 in performance on a book that maxes out at 9.85? This makes no sense.

they exceeded the book with the performance thats how

Also helps have a group like SCV getting that 9.9... Not much else left to give BD when SCV deserves a 9.9 and he thinks BD deserves a 0.1 more.

so a not-perfect book played perfectly gets rewarded, and ends up calling DCI finals? Makes little sense to me.

that caption alone didn't make the call. the visual caption and spreads within that caption had far more direct influence on the final overall score and placement. Bloo was up .15 in GE and .088 in music, making their lead .238. BD was .325 in visual. spread .087 overall. Outside of percussion, Bloo ranked ahead of BD in brass and MA.  Bloo won all but 3 GE subs.

A 10 does not mean perfect, it is the highest score a judge can give. PERIOD.

Again, the primary judge of the judge is to RANK then RATE. First priority is to make sure the best corps gets the highest score. Then you assign the actual score using the other corps scores as well to rate them at the appropriate step. WGI and DCI use very similar scoring methods when it comes to rating (granted of course the sheets will have slight differences to account for the activity). A 0.1 to 0.2 difference is very comparable, a 0.3 to 0.4 difference is minor differences, 0.5 to 0.7 is definitive differences and 0.8 or more is significant differences between groups.

Jeff basically had SCV, Bluecoats and BD all basically level in content, with SCV just ahead of BD who were just ahead of Bluecoats. When it came to achievement, Jeff obviously saw a bit more differences there to give a wider spread between the three groups.

By your logic, Bloo shouldn't have been as close to BD then. Two GE judges had Bloo outperforming their Rep, and CG judge had Bloo's guard out performing their book.

Jeff's son performed with Louisiana Stars this year. Pretty safe to assume he'll move up to World Class at some point. Will this mean that Jeff can't judge World Class?

Just noticed his son was 2nd in snare at the Performers Showcase.
