Show concepts for 2020

Recommended Posts

I think corps need to start getting more abstract with their show designs. When every show is super literal or story driven it just gets cliche. I think that’s where the Bluecoats have excelled recently, especially with shows like Downside Up and Kinetic Noise. Those shows don’t have characters or stories, but they aren’t completely random either. They have meaning without having to rely on that meaning, which can’t really be said about most of the top 12 the past few years.

I’ve always thought a David Bowie themed show would be neat. Call it, “Starman” with the culminating moment being the corps coming together and making the Ziggy Stardust lightning bolt symbol on the 50 marching in half time while blasting Starman. Not that I’ve thought this out or anything.

RIP David Bowie.

Also a corps needs to do an exact remake of Star 93 because I’m salty I never got to see that live 😂

How 'bout a season where every corps must do an exact remake of a previous show but cant be their own? I would pay big money to see this. Imagine the top 12 drum corps shows of all time reproduced?

I said 12, but I couldn't get my list below 15.

1974 SCV

1975 Madison Scouts

1975 Muchachos

1976 Blue Devils

1979 Blue Devils

1983 Garfield

1988 Madison Scouts

1991 Star

1995 Cavies

1995 Madison Scouts

2002 Cavies

2006 Cavies

2008 Phantom

2013 Crown

2019 Blue Coats

Has anyone done a Drum Corps show about Drum Corps?  Maybe an homage alluding (NOT duplicating) great shows of the past.

OK -- if you want to kill off the DM at the end, I'll buy that. But you gotta have "Tinkerbell" from Crown's "Grass Is Always Greener" do it.

Take a deep look into the Madison 2019 show and you'll find a number of tributes to corps they have competed against over the years. (I found 6 tributes; eg. 1980 Garfield with One Voice, etc.)

How about one called “Assemble” and it’s all Avengers/MCU music?
