Or try to schedule shows in the MLS stadiums around the country.  Pretty similar, no tracks, and some have over hanging roofs.  Heck, the pitch is just about up against the stands.

If they have grass-surface fields, that brings up another issue.

Thank you.  I made this point in another thread.  They used ALL of it.

Don't get me wrong. In my opinion, drum corps' visual programs in general are absolutely less interesting than they were five years ago or more, but field coverage isn't the reason.

My point is that they use the 100 yards but more to create space and depth.

The bulk of the playing and ensemble moments happen within a 50 yard space on the front sideline. Groups rarely play spread out 100 yards anymore because of the timing difficulty and the placement of the mics to spread their sound to the goal lines.

My hypothetical idea was that DCI turned into a traveling circus, where they set up their own performance stage around the country and did not need to use Football stadiums anymore, They instead rent out Fairgrounds around the country and have a standardized Performance venue everywhere they go, Where soloist stages within the crowd are possible because the stage is the same everywhere they go. Where lighting effects and sound effects are possible...

They could perform in a 360 environment where the sound is distributed evenly all around the stage and they performance floor is immersive, Similar to the Beatles ONE show or Lion King in Disney World.

I know some of your heads might have exploded, but I am always looking for whats next, and the idea that DCI corps are not Doing Marching Band shows anymore and are in search of elevating their production Value to Professional Heights has gotten me thinking of whats on the horizon and how DCI can improve the entertainment factor as it searches for new ways to drive up interest ($$$$) and compete for our Entertainment dollars against the likes of Broadway, Netflix and Professional Sports.

Back when i was a band director there was this stupid rule in my state that a performer could leave the field, but would get a penalty for returning to the field during the performance. So every year, just to make a point i would have the band push forward during the last move where they ended up in front of the front sidelines. I cant tell how many times i would watch the T & P judges write down a penalty, then i would go up to them a couple minutes later to show them the rule. Most years we actually had 3 different endings to the show, depending on the stadium.

I said it a few weeks ago, boundry violations are stupid. If a designer wants to re-write their show, and spend rehearsal time, on a different show for every stadium - let them.

seating at Fairgrounds varies place to place. I can tell you the seating at Bloomsburg isnt the same as York.

years ago, when our championships were in Scranton, a band actually had performers start the show in the stands.

and got delayed getting to the field dodging spectators. Luckily that stadium had a gate that opened to field level at the bottom. Not all stadiums do
