Poppycock
Been a lot of drum corps history that is now just that - history! Have watched both corps and circuits fold or fade away for years. Excepting the inevitable is equally painful. If things don’t change, nothing changes and it’s clear there will be no changes. So difficult for organization’s to be something they can’t afford to be, which is in many ways the largest disparity in both World and Open Class DCI organizations besides the obvious talent level discrepancies. Can only imagine the inherent challenges of a weekend only rehearsal and performance schedule, travel expenses and lack of recurring monthly revenue. Don’t know how DCA lasted this long. To be blunt- in most DCA seasons before 2005, only 3 or so corps, sometimes no more than two have had any legit chance to win. 1990 was an anomaly. It would be nice to see everyone have the perfect staff composition, perfect design, financing, a mass of talented personnel that returns year in and out, but that hasn't been happening and I don't believe it's been for a lack of effort from several of those corps. The corps in that 4-8 range are worthy of respect. A lot of it. They're better than what passed for winning contenders at one point. They're more than "Show filler." I watched the low end this year at prelims up to Hurcs, and most of it was quite watchable. Call it what you want but when you have nearly a 4 point spread between 1st and 4th at some point the performance standard starts dropping off pretty fast and its noticeable from a fan standpoint too. Sometimes dramatically. You use the word "watchable" . That's like saying you have a very nice corps there sir.

For a long while Sr corps got along on shows almost every weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Had young people I who didn’t want to be on tour or couldn’t afford it. Now all agers only have a few shows a season and costs to belong are up there. And only few shows so few opportunities to get judged and clean up based on the sheets. Not really optimistic the direction things are headed. See major changes needed somehow or going down to few corps

Some of us enjoy the effort all the corps bring.

If your striving to have a competitive circuit which DCA is attempting to have . At some point you can not appreciate effort and it becomes painful to watch.

Must every DCI corps be like BD/Crown Coats/Vanguard to satisfy you?

Asking for number and not names.

It’s called return on investment! There has to be value. Edited October 27, 2019 by Poppycock
Fred Windish
Not sure what to make of these expressions . Is it that DCA would be better off without the Buccaneers? Or, DCA would do better if there were more Buccaneers?
