Lawrence County, which ranks 41st of Ohio's 88 counties with a population of about 62,000, sits at the southernmost tip of the state, across the Ohio River from both Kentucky and West Virginia. Curiously it has more competitive marching bands than a number of counties that are much larger, and three or four bands have even made the trip to BOA in Indianapolis -- although being from quite small schools, they tend to finish near the bottom, generally not even challenging for a position in the lowest class. Still, I have enjoyed a number of their shows.
