It is time for the business of the activity to evolve

The only way that would ever happen is if the activity gets so big that streaming and ticketing revenues shift the balance of power to the have nots. Five MLB owners still vehemently disagree with the salary cap, so much so that they often willingly pay a huge penalty to violate it. But because you couldn’t put on a 100 game season without the have nots, the have nots get a vote on how the league operates.

When we get to the point in which you can’t do a tour without the corps outside of the top 10, you will get more talk about financial fairness and other similar rules. Until then, the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs and Dodgers of DCI will determine how things are done.

We have always been at that point.

and this has been going on in DCI for several years now.

How so?  You mean to tell us that several corps got together with or without DCI’s help to get improved rates on truck leasing bus leasing, fuel purchase, food purchase, equipment purchases?  Hotel stays, air travel?

Several of us were talking about revenue sharing. DCI already has limited revenue sharing for ticket sales. Merch would require a different type of agreement that probably would never fly with the members.

If you mean revenue sharing for DCI merch  maybe.  I doubt corps who create and sell their own merch would share.

Outside of that I see no way in hades Blue Devils would agree to some sort of revenue sharing agreement with the Pioneers of the DCI world, with all due respect.

People, there already IS revenue sharing among the World Class corps. Blue Devils and everyone else are bound to an agreement where they agree to accept a relative pittance for appearing at a show, the same amount as every other WC corps who appears with them. By agreeing to appear for less than their true market value, they're indirectly subsidizing corps like Pacific Crest and Troopers, who don't bring the same market value to a show's lineup.

In addition there's a split of the DCI net proceeds at the end of the season (that split uses a formula where number of years of Finals appearances plays a hand, but that would only seem reasonable, since the corps with the longest histories of competitive success drive the business, as impolite as that might seem to some).

YES...to some of this.  The purchase of food items in particular has benefitted several.

Mostly right...

Corps are appearence-paid based on their prior year finish.  Higher placements equals more pay..

The revenue formula from DCI is very strange and kept under lock and key.

I believe they leveled the performance fees out for non-TOC shows 2 or 3 years ago (or at least reduced the number of tiers).

The formula was presented in this post by cixelsyd last August (to which, as I recalled, you responded -- a point which helped me find it again since I couldn't remember who had posted it).

What is the problem statement?  What are we trying to fix here?

The “problem statement” is almost always the key to any successful improvement project.  Very, very important!  Thank for bringing this up.
