It is time for the business of the activity to evolve

Okay.  So in that experience, how many organized drum corps tours have you seen work with less than 10 corps involved?

Look I detested the entire G7 crap and still do. But if you think the top seven corps couldn’t form their own tour and have just as much money at the end of the summer you are kidding yourself.

They could not even take on the added work of their TOC show format.  Run a tour themselves?  Now I am laughing.

The larger point is that no drum corps organization has ever made a national tour happen without more than 10 participating corps.  That will not change any time soon.

When you see these huge concert tours with one mega leading act and seven other acts, you need to know that six of those seven other acts are all paying to be on the tour!

The only money they plan to make is merchandise.

This is how it works in the real world because no promoter is gonna to pay honorariums for acts no one will buy tickets to see. The same thing is true in drum corps.

Drum corps is not a concert tour.  It is a series of contests.

People are not just paying to see art.  They are paying to see a contest.

They are paying for both. But 90% a concert. The other 10% are nerds like us.

Please, not this crap again.

None of these individual corps have a substantiated "market value".  No one would know or care who the Blue Devils are (if they still existed), or any other DCI corps, without DCI.  What you mistakely call "market value" is almost entirely built from performances and competitive achievements that would never have occurred had DCI not created/maintained the league, provided the venues, and drawn this many corps together for contests of their scale, from which the better corps built their resumes.

No one who produces TEP shows would prefer a lineup of six non finalist corps over a lineup with six finalist corps. No. One.

Why? Because a show with six finalists will sell better to the fan base of the activity.

Sorry, but "we're all of equal value" doesn't work in the real world. BD working for the same money as whoever finishes 13th to 20th,  rather than pushing show sponsors for premium pay (as they could, and likely, WOULD get) is a form of subsidy on BD's part.

Ask literally any DCI promoter to pick their dream lineup to sell tickets. I will guarantee you it starts with the corps that won the previous title and goes down to #7. That’s it. The only exception would be a Music City performing in Murfreesboro.

The NFL is a franchise organization. DCI is nothing more than a NFP trade organization that is fully and wholly funded by the member corps.

By saying DCI makes its members Stars, you are saying it’s members make its members Stars. DCI has precisely no power, authority or financial means that isn’t specifically given it by its member corps.

And news flash: all corps are not equal in their power...
