Positive Brainstorming/DCA

Thought mini corps were to be the DCA version of SoundSport but never really worked out.

Heck... the DCI folks have flat-out said they looked at the mini-corps thing as a model for SoundSport.... and took it up a notch or two. Or three.  LOL.

A "DCA had it first" idea that was never quite fleshed out on the DCA side, for various reasons.

Downtown is fine. Safe... and several great places to eat/drink/hang out.

The stadium venue... well... :innocent:

Maybe BigW can fill me in. Think there was an ICA show there 1985. Minor league ballpark with crappy lighting. Other than that was at Lycoming college for an event (Mark Russell?) and HS football game back in the Stone Age.

Other than that drawing blank....

Off top of my head Derby City did mini and then Class A for a year or so. Shenandoah Sound did mini while trying to go up to 35 member rule. Need to check scores as not sure of others

It's the Williamsport High School stadium that is used for prelims/finals.

I will say... the sausage-and-pepper sandwiches sold out by the souvie area were terrific! 🙂

Mini-corps was at a maximum size of 21 performers (not counting DM and honor guard) for several years. Not sure what the reasoning was behind the 21 number... but to me, it seemed arbitrary.

It was bumped up to 25 a few years back... I don't know if the number has been changed again.

My bad as was unclear. ShenSound used to march less than 12 members at Prelims. When DCA started the 35 or more members for field shows, ShenSound went field inactive for a bit. They did minis at least one year while working on getting 35 members for field shows.

And trying to remember the HS stadium the one time I was there for a football game. Weird I can remember State College stadium but not Williamsport. All I remember for both is getting out of school early for the bus trip.

Part of the Mini issue was that a couple of them dominated big time, several from that era packed up their toys and walked away because of it. Others have taken their place. All of them were very enjoyable to listen to Jim.

Depends with Minis or any Sound Sport type of unit how competitive you intend to be... or what you really desire to do with it. To me, the Minis, SoundSport for some organizations and I and E are very much a participant oriented thing... like SCCA's Solo Racing. You know that Spooky Nook Sports complex off PA 283 near Landisville? 98 people showed up for a recent autocross event. Booked solid. I might be a second driver next year with a friend with a nice little Street prepared Miata track car. Am I looking to do my best? Yeah. Am I looking for money, winning, trophies, and fame? If I win it's a serious bonus, and I don't count on it nor do I care. More about participating and doing my best and having fun thrashing a little car around with a great friend.

They're now SONUS and participate in SoundSport, Jim.
