correct their first year was 1973

First year attending for BD, yes. First year in finals was 1974.

The "first year" thing is confusing.

Let’s go with the first year I was there. 😂😎✌️

For me, that would be 1975.

I've only been to three in my life. Finals in 1975 and '76... and pretty much the entire week except Finals in 2000.

All of them within an hour or so from home at the time.  LOL.

I was at the first one. I’ve been to 32 DCI championships.

I went to each corps wikipedia page.  Here is what it had for Blue Devils for example.  I knew about some being open class, but didn't want to go through trying to figure out what each corps did in open versus division III vs world class etc.

there was no DCI in 1971. but you have corps listed as first year that were formed well before 1972
