Continental
Why the heck would anyone design a guard program without any footwear. Do you think FloMarching is going to focus on the feet in any camera shot? Actually - they will probably focus on the turf during half of the show. Did FloMarching learn about on field camera work from the '83/'84 DCI videos?

MikeN
AFAIK, DCI does require footwear (and has for a long time), but the exact type is up to the corps. I know a few visual folks, and they all take it very seriously as far as foot support and endurance. Mike 1

Make every day a Leave it to Beaver day at shows. All corps must play Huey Lewis' "Back In Time". Busbys would look so good on corps these days. Blue Devils in Busby's. Change is inevitable but not all changes are good.

"Buck up and learn the hard way" ends up in lawsuits, fired directors, and staff. Seen too many otherwise decent and good people end up on the street over things like this. So there is no personal accountability here? "Check the field"!- wearing footwear renders that moot. Why not check the road to the practice field too, since there is a chance that the member might go shoe-less to the field? Lawsuit because a member didn't protect him/herself from the sun? Please. Band member gets injured because staff didn’t make sure conditions were safe is the question. At least in our area safety concerns is a staff/director function and not band members. And why would band members not be wearing something to cover their feet .... because they made the wrong choice or they were directed to go barefoot? And how does one protect the bottom of their feet from a overly hot surface if they can’t wear something to cover their feet?
