I have predicted in past that we will likely know the 2020 champ before the actual trial happens.

Once all the Discovery & other motions are complete they will then need to schedule the actual trial.  And that involves finding enough open space on 3 calendars (prosc. & defense counsel plus judge).  And there are other cases in the queue ahead of the one we are most interested in.

It is also possible that they will make a plea deal.

Well, looks like I was sort of correct...but for the wrong reason  😧

Yup!  GH might want to suspend his 2020 trial season to 2021 as well.  Funny but not funny.

One can draw out legal proceedings with lots of motions, etc.  But that also costs $$.  Which it is sometimes used by litigants with deep pockets.

We'll have to see how this case pans out. The Harvey Weinstein case just concluded and he faces prison time and there are still additional charges in California that he will go to trial for.

Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 23 years in prison after addressing his accusers in court

It was reported five days ago that Weinstein has tested positive for COVID19 in the upstate New York prison where he's been held since his sentencing. He's likely to have contracted the disease at the Rikers Island jail, where he was previously held and which is known to have had an outbreak. But prisons generally are going to be hotspots for this epidemic because of how crowded they are. Some states are already making arrangements to release prisoners who present the least risk to the public. Weinstein is very unlikely to make that cut, though.

All of this is probably weighing on Hopkins' mind, don't you think?

Not in the least is it weighing on him.  His narcissism prevents him from believing he'll ever be Weinstein-ed.

Here's a two-fold solution: the US government pays to send the lesser offenders on cruise ships until the virus is eradicated.  Then spread the violent offenders throughout the remaining prison space.  This will help the cruise industry & the prison systems.  (Editorial: I don't think we should subsidize the cruise industry w/government funding.)

You should see his frequent post on Facebook.  It's truly amazing & incredulous.

This is the electronic version of showing us a leg (haha my autocorrect changed it to keg). This IS the George Hopkins thread, so, give us a taste - give us a snippet or three. It’s not like we all have places to go today after all 🤔

They are releasing non-violent offenders who have completed at least part of their sentences first.

GH is accused of Sexual Assault.  This is a violent crime.  If convicted, he will not be assigned to a minimum security facility.

In addition, when it comes to "normal" parole, one big factor the parole board looks at is 'has the convict admitted his crimes & is repentant?'  So GH would also have to get over that (mental) hurdle as well. (I also understand that at this point he has pled 'not guilty', and is considered innocent until proven guilty.  But if convicted, he is by definition been proven guilty; at some time after that he would first meet the parole board).

Also, the Covid-19 outbreak will likely wreak havoc on the court schedule - so it may be a while before GH sees his day in court.  And no one knows what the Covid & Convicts (that has a nice ring to it) situation will be at that point.

It is also possible that he accepts the plea deal that has been offered.  But we won't know that until the next court date (currently listed as 16 April; suspect that will change) at the earliest.  I cannot imagine that in this day & age a plea deal for Sexual Assault would not include prison time, but I have been surprised in the past.

IIRC the case will be tried in Lehigh County (Allentown’s county)? For non PA’ers that’s the SE corner that’s taken the brunt of coronavirus so far. Don’t expect any action for quite a while.
