We had a guy in my local junior corps who missed a parade because he was "seeing all kinds of colors, man."  No further explanation needed.

Ahhhh.... the 1970s. LOL

Our Sr corps was boring.... just had two guys almost miss a show at Lewisburg because they went to Lewistown. “Anyone see Dave and Tim yet?”. “No, oh #### you don’t think they went to....”. Showed up 15 minutes before we were due to step off.

And that trip to New Orleans was delayed... phone call went.... “Bob where are you, the buses leave at 8.” “Yeah 8 tomorrow morning”. “No ###hole 8, as in 15 minutes ago”. Thank goodness he lived near where we got the buses. But man was he flying down the road. “Look at this speed demon” “Betcha it’s Bob... yep”.

When Jim was in Kilts jr,  they were in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1974 and the corps director was thrown in jail for going the wrong way on a roundabout.  You can’t make this #### up.  😂

He was driving the UK direction around....

Only car ride I took in England. Sat up front so where the hades is the steering wheel? Then we got to the roundabout and go the other direction in the dark and can’t see squat. Was on long plane ride, took the Tube all over London (including getting lost), watched a near security incident in front of us at Gatwick and had a chat with a guy with tattoos and door knocker hanging out of his nose (don’t stare Jim). But that 15 seconds going the other way at the roundabout in the dark was the scariest 🥵

Jim was in Japan when he was an active Marine and he drove there.  He said that was crazy.

Massachusetts took drum corps very seriously in 1974, and for Lynners, the World Open was a sacred event and Manning Bowl was hallowed ground.  So my question is, who did the arresting officer march with? In Lynn in 1974, it could have been 27th, Reveries, St. Mary’s Cardinals, or BAC. If the arresting officer was female, she may have been a Jeanette.

1980... some folks with DCA's Sunrisers got lost in a neighborhood off the interstate in MA while dropping off a hitchhiker.  To make a longer story shorter, an MA state trooper pulled them over... asked where they were coming from. One of the guys (OK... my older brother, who was the only sober one in the car...LOL)... told the trooper they were on their way home from the Boston Cup show in Lynn.

The trooper said, "Who won? I used to march with the Lancers!!!" Well... the Lancers had won the DCI portion and the Caballeros the DCA portion of the show. So an obviously happy trooper gave the Sun guys a police escort to the interstate, instead of...uhhh... checking a bit more closely to see if there were any open containers of adult beverages, or other, shall we say, stuff.   :innocent:  And I'll leave it at that.

Unbelievable that they encountered maybe the only MA trooper on duty that night who knew anything about drum corps!!! The Sun guys knew they used up eight of their nine lives...LOL... and found a hotel at the next exit.

Sister was pumping gas at a Sheetz in Eastern PA last summer and state trooper next to her pumping the cruiser. She was on a book run for her business and ton o’ crap in the Forester. The cop keeps looking over and then walks up to her. Sis is thinking oh crud... Then he looks at her and sez “I thought that was a Buccaneers shirt. Had a family member march there. Have a good day”.

His sinuses must have been blocked.  Boston had mm who joined the MA State Troopers.  Their union is so strong and connected, the politicians (I believe) still can't do away with LEO's doing the details instead of flag people.  I covered a Trooper detail one night on I95 when most of them were in Boston on a big security gig.  Might have been during the President's visit.
