True or false? Turns out to be true, and this is just the first to decide it can't be done. This is as it should be. Isn't this a rational approach by DCI member corps if they were attempting to reclaim exclusivity as an activity, and maybe as a "League" (The Major League). If there were a separate tour for "smaller" corps from WC then, potentially, orgs like Encorps would have a place to perform, so it goes. If not diluting the DCI brand, and hopefully elevating it, is the goal of the voting members, then this move makes logical sense.

The concern is whether this is a slippery slope to the elitism that the G-7 proposal sought which froze out many corps. ??? And by whose definition? JimF-LowBari
Any (rumored) reason for the 25 member jump? DCA went to 35 minimum years back and that was due to audience complaints from seeing corps that were very small. Quotes related to me were “paid for 6 corps show and got 4 corps and 2 partials. I feel cheated” and “if it’s like this next year I won’t be back “ Edited November 18, 2019 by JimF-LowBari
garfield
Are there any other veteran OC orgs that are at risk of not attracting at least 55 mm's? Edited November 18, 2019 by garfield

(Some seasons), notre amis Les Stentors de Sherbrooke, Que. They are currently Canada's only competing drum and bugle corps in DCI (not counting those soundsport bands that venture south.) This is as it should be. Sorry, but how is this "as it should be"? Why is 55 minimum "as it should be"? Seems like 30 was "as it should be" until just recently, so what changed? Quote Isn't this a rational approach by DCI member corps if they were attempting to reclaim exclusivity as an activity, and maybe as a "League" (The Major League). Are you doing that devils advocate thing again? For starters, DCI is buried in "exclusivity". There is a myriad of rules, written and unwritten, and many hoops for organizations to jump through before even getting to open-class. And what is open-class? Doing all the work of a full-fledged drum corps while being kept out of the club. Even if you get in, there are more rules and policies that delay acquisition of full member rights, and mathematic formulas to prevent you from sharing revenue equally with your current peers. What "exclusivity" do you think DCI has lost? Quote If there were a separate tour for "smaller" corps from WC then, potentially, orgs like Encorps would have a place to perform, so it goes. There is a separate tour for OC corps. But even that is exclusive. Encorps apparently was not being granted access to it for 2020. Quote If not diluting the DCI brand, and hopefully elevating it, is the goal of the voting members, then this move makes logical sense. When did growth become "dilution"? (Never mind, I remember... it was in 2010.) If "diluting the brand" is a chief concern, then DCI should stop changing things... especially that one last distinction between them and the band brand. If 55 is really something the powers that be in DCI are looking at then same could be said.... 2
cybersnyder
I guess if you’re number 55 to sign the contract you might be able to negotiate for a reduced rate.
