Disturbing DCI rumors

Exactly what problem for WC corps would regional associations solve?  Would designers knock their fees down? Does it cost less to feed 200 people out of a Sysco truck in one town than it does another town 1000 miles away? Would insurance costs go down significantly?

Shorter tour.  Less nights out and more out-an-back gigs.  A myriad of costs eliminated.

The real issue, of course, is implementing cost-containment that doesn't cause the other providers to the activity to simply raise their prices to fill the gap.

The corps in a region are seen much more frequently in that region.  That may inhibit gate pricing and mandate fewer shows to get higher prices.

Fans in CA will pay top dollar to see Crown on the west coast for the start of the season, but will they pay the same to see BD for the fifth time before the trek to Finals?

I'm not seeing that, unless you mean the entire season starts later. When you say less nights out and more out-and-back, what does that mean? Assuming the season is the same length, corps still need to house, transport and feed their members the same number of days, whether they travel within a region or on a regular tour.

You've obviously put effort and time into this, but some of it seems a bit arbitrary merely to fit the corps into the equations, rather than the equations to the corps.

For instance, Denver is contiguous to Academy but are destined for Seattle; same with Battalion and Casper.

Bluecoats are a mere 7 hours from Allentown but have to meander two days to Fargo to appease the model.

The idea is workable, details need tweeking. Perhaps a Rocky Mt. region?

Yep, tweaking indeed is needed. But this is to benefit the longevity of the activity and it's sustainability. More soundsport units begets more Open Class corps which begets more World Class Corps.

It seems like you're proposing that the World Class member greatly limit themselves for the benefit of the Open Class and SoundSport participants? I don't think that has a chance of passing.

IMHO, its to benefit the longevity of the activity and it's sustainability. More soundsport units begets more Open Class corps which begets more World Class Corps.

I hear you, but for a WC corps, the big expenses are in fixed costs, so staying local would only save on fuel, which is a surprisingly small portion of the overall cost of the summer. If the Blue Stars decided to stay within 300 miles of LaCrosse for late June and early July, their staff and design fees, food budgets, charter costs, etc, etc, etc, would be unchanged.  For show sponsors in June and early July, having a lineup of no one but other regional corps would be a damper on ticket sales, since, with the memberships no longer being local, it's not like Ashley marching in Blue Stars will have mom and dad in the stands every Wisconsin and Illinois show for three weeks...as her mom and dad probably live in Texas.

What WOULD save money for the corps is shortening the season - first show on July 1, Finals night second Saturday in Aug (as it is). Moving in on Memorial Day weekend rather than mid-May and taking away two weeks of chartered bus costs would knock $60-80k out of the food and transportation budgets, but at the cost of losing six to eight performances for the major corps. Then again, the staffs would probably look at that savings as a license to push for another $80,000 in electronics gear, so the net effect might end up being zero.

Agree... Unless I REALLY am off on DCI corps today it’s not like any of them can send members home in between gigs or on off days. Same amount of food and lodging that I can see...:

Unless you start ST later.  Which may need to happen as schools end the year later (in my part of VA school typically doesn't let out until mid June).
