Yes But for corps marching on King, Dynasty, Jupiter, Kanstul horns, to my knowledge those manufacturers don't also make WoodWind Instruments. It would be a separate deal from the Brass instruments. Similar to the Drum companies being paired with different Stick Manufacturers.

Not all Yamaha Drums play on Vic Firth, some use Innovative Percussion. Not all Pearl Drums play on Remo Heads, some play on Evans..

At that level you'd think that common sense would prevail. And of course, Yamaha could extend the deal to provide the instruments to all corps, If a corps chooses to use a different instrument that would be on their own dime and or provided by their own instrument manufacturer. But at that point would for example,  Kanstul buy $10,000 worth of WW and provide them Free of Charge to their corps just so that they don't use Yamaha WW instruments they don't manufacture and compete with in the first place?

A quick google search shows that all of the manufacturers you listed besides Dynasty make woodwinds. Hell, king owns conn selmer which is an iconic saxophone brand.
edit: king is a brand of brass from conn selmer, so it’s still connected to woodwinds but not the way I thought.

Ah, but what happens when Yamaha then comes back and says "want free woodwinds?  Buy Yamaha brass and percussion first."

As long as the corps agree to not smuggle their directors out of the country in a Contrabass case...they might even get additional reeds thrown into the deal.

Us oldies? I started in 1963, and IMO this is a great and long overdue change, even if for now it is primarily for soloists and small groups in the pit.

With all due respect you are an oldie but your lineage is more to band than Drum & Bugle corps.  IMHO too much is made of DCI designers than to performers. Good luck to them all in finding the pot of gold. I applaud Garfield to his apparent knock on Hopkins - to DCI this will be my last purchase of finals ( if there is one ) and wish all of you success in the future !

DCI has become a total joke. Complain about us dinos all you want,  but back then corps fees weren't 2K per year. Why?  Well today's instructors (if you want to call them that)  are a big reason. They keep proposing rule changes to advance their own creative egos and almost every one of them in some way adds to the cost. From podiums to props to electronics to instrumentation. The kids are just tools for them to advance their minds fantasies. Back in the day we probably weren't as good as today's corps but there were tons more kids involved in the activity. If you want musical performances today's corps are very good, but if you want an activity that has the best interests of youth in mind then yesteryears drum corps was MUCH better.

hate to tell you, the rules changes you hate are small on a corps budget compared to food, fuel, housing and insurance

I am not sure how to address your incredulity that corps fees are $2000. But I am curious, how many WC corps have fees less than $3000? How many have fees more than $4000? $5000?

Now you can be incredulous.
