Netflix "Cheer!" is what "Clash of the Corps" Should Have Been

Recommended Posts

"VarsityTV" is actually a Flo channel, and comes with your subscription of FloMarching. Varsity TV just announced they got the sync  rights to 3000 cheer shows to show them with music and video (like drum corps). Hopefully a step in the right direction for all this copyright mess.

One of the performances they have is actually the Championship Performance from the cheer team on the Netflix show.

Because that is explicitly illegal?  🤔

Gotta say, I was not interested.  My wife started watching it, and I walked into the room...

The parallels with our activity are stunning... especially that young lady whose ribs were trashed.  Crying and huddled over after every rep, and then getting up and doing it again because you just... have to... for yourself, and for the group.

I cried for some of the kids they spotlit (spotlighted?) and I wish I'd felt that during Clash of the Corps.  "Cheer!" did a phenomenal job.

Worth noting that they are in the Community College division. 2 year schools. For one reason or a another each were not accepted at 4 year university cheer programs. Or at least, one that was a match for them.

or could not afford a 4 year university...

Also, some of those kids chose to go to there for many years (3-4) because of the cheer squad.

That was exactly how I felt - zero interest but then couldn’t get over the parallel to drum corps

"If the shoe fits..." your wife is going to be suspicious of why you like it.

If it isn't on History, Discovery, Smithsonian or PBS, it's going to be "out of the norm" LOL. Then I'll have to go down to the shop and make her something fancy to get her to stop looking cross eyed at me. You gotta understand...she's 29 and used to be a cheerleader.
