I vaguely remember hearing a tape of one of the west coast corps at finals in the early to mid-70s (I think it was Anaheim, but not certain) and you can clearly hear someone yell "California sucks" on the tape.

That was SCV right after Candide in 74. Smh

That's the only one I've ever done I'm proud to say.  (Oh, yeah, and there was that one time I said "CRYSTAL!".)

92 Crossmen percussion members are still looking for that person

Better question is why does the announcer have to ask “is your corps ready?”

Definitely gotta be a VFW thing - back in the days where you could be penalized 0.1 for not having all the marchers tied their shoes the right way.

I thought this question was bizarre when I first started marching band in 1988.  I guess we've all just gotten used this throw-back.

It's a tradition. Somebody has to say that or it's not Drum Corps and everything will just go to pot.

I mean take that away and the next thing you know there'll be MMs in strange spandex outfits running around, using sousaphones, trombones, and God knows what else.

It has been around for a while - I remember occurring in in the 1970s.

The earliest I can recall was on a Cavaliers recording....70 or 71. World Open or some such.

Did he #### in your Cheerios in the 80s???

Nope. Just changed his approach to the gravely hard to understand announcer that he is now.

I am the guy that says "HANG ON! WE NEED 5 MINUTES! JUST 5 MORE MINUTES!"

And then the penalties roll in

I didn’t realize you used to do the electronics hook up work for the Crossmen on semifinals night!
