Encouragement Thread - If you need support let’s help

Recommended Posts

More encouraging news: last week, there were reports about some South Korean patients who had previously recovered from COVID19 retesting as positive, with concerns about the implications that you having the disease didn't provide immunity and you could catch the disease again.

Today South Korea seems to have confirmed what some epidemiologists were suggesting last week: these cases are actually false positives.

Even more (somewhat) encouraging news: while the infection fatality rate of COVID19 in the U.S. has unfortunately been about as high as expected, the hospitalization rate has been notably lower than predicted. It's not entirely clear why that's the case (and it does imply that if COVID19 sends you to the hospital, you're in a very bad way), but it does suggest that people whose "elective" surgeries had been postponed can now have those operations: so-called elective surgeries are often important and lifesaving, just not critically urgent.

Not everyone infected can afford a hospital stay. Some are dying at home. As for the actual numbers infected/deaths could very well be twice what we’re being told. We won’t know the whole truth until mass testing is put in place. Not trying to be Douggie Downer, just being a bit more realistic.

Saw that elective surgeries can be performed by one of the big hospital chains in PA last week. Good news and here (state wide anyway) the number of available hospital beds, ICU units and respirators have more than kept up with demand. Not sure about Philly area as that has about 25% of all cases in the state. Currently 44k+ total (5th or 6th highest state) and averaging over 1000 new cases each day (that number has NOT budged for a few weeks and a concern). Yeah for lowering the curve as medical community has been able to keep up. Bleep you herd immunity people.

Reading my new copy of “The Great Influenza” by John Barry about 1918-1920 pandemic. Amazing how much information was suppressed in name of war time morale and it bit everyone in the butt. Just reading how bad it was in Philly and turning bad so fast is an apt description.
Just waiting and seeing what happens next as I stay safe as I can. We know more now but anything is possible.

so I post this then check email: AL Post in Hanover has cancelled the Memorial Day parade already. Good for them as county has been hit pretty good.

This is the encouragement thread, so I'm sticking to good news only.

This is good but not particularly practical news: Can Lava Kill Coronavirus? An Investigation. The answer is yes.

960x0.jpg?fit=scale

There are bacteria that can live in water at a temperature of 250 F (higher than the boiling point, but not actually boiling because of huge pressures), but lava is at least 1,800 F, too hot for any microbe or any virus.

As well as nursing homes for civilians and veterans.

Current hot spots the more things are checked out. My zip code has about double the state average per population in cases. But have 3 long term care places within the zip code. Can’t get more details but at least one of them is reported an undisclosed number of cases with patients and staff.
