If fielding more than allowed normally, which section has the extra mm?  Brass sections in DCI are around 72 these days, so maybe 8 went to brass, but isn't Boston marching over 160?

Bluecoats marched 80 from about 2014-2018. I believe they went down to 76 for 2019 to expand the guard. When they marched 80 brass, the breakdown was 24 trumpets, 16 mellos, 24 bari/euphs, 16 C-Basses

Guards have grown with brass losing some.  The synth usage has assisted the contras and other sections (?) for several years to make up for losing some contra spots.  Not sure if the penalty for too many mm is a certain number or if it's a number per each extra mm.  Time for Boston to revisit 85, when they did their electronics segment and take a hit for marching as many as they want.  Maybe they could earn back the penalty with improvement in other captions.  (It's been a slow day.)

Yup. Contras took the hit for 2019 Bluecoats. I think the contra cut may have been a factor (maybe a small factor) for Matt Stratton moving on to Cadets as their brass caption head. He was co-caption head at Bluecoats.

There are no penalties for this season. Yesterday, I counted 80 brass, 19 battery, 18 front ensemble, 4 drum major/conductors, and 58 guard, for a total or 179, but I do not know if they plan to field this many. There didn't seem to be anyone without their own spot.

Now, what would be the penalty for marching with that many mm in a judged season?

thought I heard, during the "Giving Day" video(s), that there would be 80 brass and 52 in the guard. I did not hear the other numbers in the sections you mentioned. But the DM and Battery numbers seem "normal". Possibly heard 6 tenors? The front ensemble number seems to be high, to me. I wonder if some of these are alternates?

Thanks for the update, craiga!! Can't wait to see the corps when they get back to the Boston area!

I don't remember.  But it is pretty irrelevant since all drum corps these days bend over backward to ensure they aren't over the limit in a regular season, which this is not.

A few corps have close to that number, but most are closer to 13.  You're probably right that alternatives might be used in this years shows.

And a AGT yes from me also for Craiga's up close an personal updates.
