We always called it a "gock" drum because it sounds like gock when you hit it. Maybe someone with a more modern experience can give us an answer. My sophomore year in HS, I came back from a Spirit camp and almost immediately ordered 6" shells for our Slingerland quads and converted them to sextuplets.
