And these days, DCI would have just edited the performance on the CD's / DVD's.  (Gotta say, when I hear the semis version of the show, it sounds wrong to hear it played right!)

Mike

they did on the tapes back then. BD was semis on the cassettes

They did edit the performance on the CD's. The opener and the closer were from finals. The two middle charts were from semis.

I don't think they did on the cassettes - I bought those back when and it still had the finals frack.

Here are the recordings from both Finals and Semis:

Finals:

Semis:

Interesting that all these years later the issues he had on finals don't seem as great.  The soloist is a spectacular player - he knew how to make that horn sing.

Part of the problem was that the Corps was waiting for him to hit a certain note as a time to move.  Much more obvious on the (VHS) tape I made off the PBS broadcast.

Is it like a record player?

It was a thing with music on it that you played over and over and over until it garbled up the tape player in your father's car.

At least it didn't change tracks in the middle of a song like an 8-track.   Did DCI ever offer 8-track recordings in the '70s?
