Very cool. I will have to send the links to my daughter in London. She is a drummer like her dad and grandfather. 3rd generation!

Sheila E was the hottest thing on MTV BITD...well, in a drummer's opinion anyway.

Was the female in SCV's snare line the last couple of years a first for SCV?

I don't think she was unless I'm thinking of a different year. Let's not forget ladies like Kelly Houpt from '82 BD. Great lady and an even better player. We hung out a little at LMS in '05 if I remember right. I was stoked.

This is a run though before the DCA performance in 2011

Halfway through set, the women put their corps jackets on and continue to play.

I remember the woman snare player from SCV 2018. I am wondering about the weight of the instruments and the current movements while marching. It must be very hard for them to play and march

Kelly and Carla were in the snare line in the 80's, but the first appears to be Bobbi DelCastello in 1975 (based on the BD rosters and an old forum topic at the BD website). Her profile says snare in 1974 and 1975, though another post (apparently by Kelly Houpt, based on the info she gives) said she marched "trios" in '74 and snare in '75.

Kelly has been a poster on DCP, so she may see this and chime in.

They all pretty much weigh in around 20lbs and with the new carriers you get a lot more relief than with the old non-tilting aluminum ones (or worse yet the Ludwig steel ones.) Dynasty snares weighed a little more I think.

These performers grow up with tubs strapped to them so I wouldn't think it's really an issue. Movement wise, I certainly couldn't do what any of these MM's do now. I'm pretty glad that I fell into the "forward 4, back 4, crab left, crab right, BOOM hit my dot" generation of battery percussion.
