Another Trivia Question

Recommended Posts

Here's another trivia question...........

In 1977, the Oakland Crusaders were the first and only corps in DCI history to win a caption (percussion) and not make finals.  That is legendary, and the likelihood

of that happening again is very remote (I never say never....).

However, in 1977, the Garfield Cadets also set a record in the preliminaries that has not been matched by any other corps in the 48 year history of DCI, and thus

stands to this day.  What is it?

They got into finals because they tied with someone (Cavaliers?)?

Tied for 12th to become the 13 finalist?

77 Garfield absolutely rocked, btw.

Really good guess, but that's not it, though, as they shared that record with the Kilts, as the only 2 corps to tie to get into finals,  putting 13 corps into finals night.....

Kilties actually

Bayonne's DQ is in the mix as well

Guess which corps scored the highest in prelims but did NOT make finals in 1977?  In other words; the first losers.

Even if Bayonne had not been disqualified, there would have been 13 finalists (and Bayonne did perform/compete due to a court injunction), as DCI had no tie-breaker rule......

Technically they were the only corps to finish 13th in finals, but that's not it....."officially" they were 12th in finals after Bayonne's disqualification......

Clue...............it's in the numbers..............no cheating, though............

ANSWER......

The 1977 Garfield Cadets had the lowest ranked ordinal given in DCI history of any corps that qualified for finals.  In prelims, they were 27th on one judge's sheet in drums (24th overall).....they were 23rd in overall drums, but the strong brass line was 4th.....the corps tied for 12th (Kilts) to make finals.................
