His score for Cinema Paradiso is perfection.

So many of his scores were perfection. We have lost a giant but are fortunate to have his rich musical legacy. Every time I hear part of the Cinema Paradiso score I wonder when a corps is going to put it on the field, particularly the love theme as a ballad.

Clearly one of the best in the long history of music for films. A Giant!

He was, indeed, a master.

It's no coincidence that, like it's predecessor opera, the best film music is visually evocative, hence, ideal for drum corps. And it only requires a couple of notes to set the scene.

Case in point: that poignant whistle theme. Genius revealed in simplicity.

OMG. I'm obsessed with his The Mission score. It's beautiful.

Right there with you. It's sublime.

Crazy enough that he didn't get an Oscar for it, but Morricone finally winning for The Hateful Eight is like Bob Newhart not winning an Emmy until he guest starred on The Big Bang Theory.

Hateful Eight was good but nothing like The Mission or The Good, The Bad or The Ugly. Another composer to yet to win an Oscar is Thomas Newman. Shawshank to my favorite Road to Perdition and his latest nomination 1917.

Awesome music. Gorgeous photography. Boring film, unfortunately. Far from the first time that the composer's work will outlast its reason for existing.

DCX lists Bluecoats playing something by Morricone called "Moon" in 1997. What is that? The Wikipedia list of Morricone compositions is no help.

Yes..the film didn't live up to the beautiful score.
