I post up one reply and you get all sideways. So why not save the same vitriol towards the person who posted the original numbers. You could have just as easily had the same reply.

Selective man really selective.

Now hold on.  Let's just wait to get Chuck Woolery's opinion before we make any knee-jerk reactions.

Chucks watched that wheel spin too many times. 😈

Great discussion everyone - so in my state, for the week of July 5 - 11we have cumulative 40,163 cases and 1,490 deaths -

would you calculate IFR by dividing deaths by case -- mortality rate of: 0.037

How would we calculate Infection Fatality Rate for the entire USA?

According to numbers on the CDC website the mortality rate in the US is 4.2%.

That is what Johns Hopkins is reporting IIRC.

Know I grumped about percentages but almost had a math minor so....

your state 3.7%

US roughly 3m cases and 135k deaths.. 4.5%

once a number cruncher always a number cruncher 😖

Since it is apparently OK to care about the facts again (at least for a second) I would point out that the 4.2% is not the actual fatality rate of deaths per infections.  It is what Johns Hopkins calls the “case” fatality rate, which is deaths per reported cases. That is a hugely important difference if we want to understand the risks.
