I didn’t realize you thought things were so bad between us I couldn’t even ask a yes or no question. I stand corrected.... I’ll try not to respond to anything you post if it helps...

Yes it does seem they are. So was the person arrested a direct employee of Varsity or the two federations?

it's all the same.

Every company out in the real world has exposure and could literally hire a perv. Usually background checks get rid of the ones who have been caught but predators are out there all the time.

So what will questions do? What type of questions? Lets hope its not someone who acts and speaks like that clown on drumcorps af.

back when Hopghazi broke, the world of cheerleading, dominated by Varsity was cited of an organization to follow when it came to how they do things. These articles show when it comes to keeping those with records of issues with Children, its as bad as drum corps. Maybe worse

Is there something wrong with an organizing force setting up rules for a brand new activity they envisioned?  Hmm...  This sounds strikingly similar to drum corps circa 1973.  Why the parenthesis?  Are they not real rules?

Drum Corps makes its own "rules", too.  AF, they do, and they change them all the time to benefit those in the activity who are more able than others to operate under those "rules" and, ahem, "expectations".

Drum Corps had (has) skeletons in its closet, too, but it still tries to do what is best for the participant experience and promises to do, do better.

So far, I'm only more convinced that Varsity and drum corps are made for each other; perfect partners, so to speak.

ah but there's big differences, which if you read the articles you'd see. It's not quite that which you make it out to be.

I'm only going to say that I don't live in a binary world, Jim, and I don't give two shoots what you think I sound like.

You and I have a history of failing to engage civilly.  Let's not go down that road again here.  Thanks.

so he asked a straight forward question in a non argumentative way, and this is your non answer.  Please spare us the hypocrisy on your lectures of how discourse on DCP should be done.

I'm curious, is it one of the corps that asked questions about George Hopkins?

Absolutely, ask lots of questions, starting at the top with Varsity (The Drum Corps) and continuing down to the cheer and competition divisions (DCI).  Ask all the questions to find out how to: plug all holes, eradicate all areas of potential harm, document P&P to be used throughout the activity, even down and into the rules that govern competition equipment to be used, in what form, and how it is scored and ranked, who competes against whom, what ages are exposed to adult interaction and how those adults are vetted and held to standard.

I can almost assure that Varsity has already "cleaned house" like drum corps has and, yet, as in drum corps, there are "stragglers" and others who fall through the initial cracks, as this kid in the Cheer division did.  DCI didn't let it happen twice (Crossmen) and was proactive quickly.  I'm giving Varsity the BOTD that they will do the same.

Did DCI have any process other than background checks to protect against predators?  It doesn't appear that Varsity did, either.  Now, I think we'll find that they both do.

Again, I'm still finding ways that DCI can learn from Varsity in these areas and, in fact, maybe capitalize on Varsity's P&P to implement real, activity-wide and exampled protection policies.  Maybe Varsity can learn a thing or two about how to run multi-million dollar non-profits in the mean time.

Sounds crazy, might work.

I don't know who asked questions about Hopkins. I mean in January of 2018 the rumor mill was going nuts, 3 months before the articles came out. IMO, more than likely too many corps were circling their wagons to prevent fallout to them. Now however given the new rules and regs for member safety, reporting etc, I don't think it's bad they ask.

If Varsity had cleaned house when they should have, these articles wouldn't have happened...so now, like DCI it's damage control and PR spin. And even after the Hop stuff Broke, you had Pioneer, Oregon Crusaders and all of the Crossmen stuff...plus other folks outed on various social media streams like Mandarins the last few months.

Varsity did. then they did business with those who didn't, and could help make Varsity money. Given that Varsity has 3 large lawsuits against it, including one heading down the RICO road....maybe it's an example for DCI to learn what NOT to do

Not needed.  I made no such assertion but I'm glad that you agree we can interact civilly.

But, I think your question would be better addressed to Jeff, as it is he who is contending that a straw-man is planning to ask questions.  Perhaps knowing the questions to which he's referring will help quench your desire for information.

no straw man. Just a corps who is concerned. After all the corps ARE DCI.
