Iconic Stadiums for Drum Corps!

Recommended Posts

Since we're touring the burroughs, I must pay homage to Gaelic Park in the Bronx ... host to a myriad of GNYC & Open shows ...

Ah, yes, Gaelic Park: Van Cortlandt Park stop on the IRT Broadway Line.

I lived in a 4th-floor apartment a block and a half away when I attended Manhattan College. It had an unobstructed view of the field, and I recall watching the Troopers and a few others from that window "GE Box".

Hopping over the GW Bridge from da Bronx to NJ, let's give our just do to Newark Schools Stadium, which played host to a show just about every weekend ... many Penn-Jersey, Garden State and GNYC shows ...

My first show as a Cadet was in Somerville, Mass. in 1990.  Quietest crowd in my entire drum corps experience ... until we finished.  You REALLY had to win those folks over in Crusader Land.

I just remember tight tunnels, lots of brick and wrought iron gates.  It was a very VERY unique experience.

Horlick Field Racine WI.

Marched there with St Raphaels Buccaneers in 1962.  Al Karls did a drum corps book about that storied drum corps stadium.

Hinchcliffe Stadium, Patterson NJ.  Home to countless drum corps competitions in the 1960s.
