Let’s have some fun. What gutsy moves by corps can you come up with? Do you think they paid off? Here’s a couple of my examples:

SCV introducing asymmetrical drill in 1981. It hurt them at the time but pushed the activity forward.

Blue Knights playing First Circle in 2013. Blue Devils and Crossmen had already given us great renditions and although BK didn’t break any new ground with the piece I feel they put their unique imprint on it.

Mandarins, Blue Star and Academy Musicale doing incredibly ambitious shows when they were DIII corps and showing us size doesn’t matter.

There is a Vanguard show in the later '70s where they did asymmetrical drill during one part of the show.

I can't remember the year or the piece they used (maybe during a percussion solo), but I remember noting that side one did not equal side two on purpose.

I can't find the clip on YouTube anymore.

I just watched Garfield ‘82 on Thursday because I wanted to see how it set the tone for ‘83 and the subsequent threepete.

I remember seeing Garfield early season in '82 and thinking "What are they doing?"

Then saw them later in the season as well as at finals and my reaction became "Look at what they are doing - incredible!"
