Some states did. And yep nothing to do with some corps not there, just not a regular championships for many reasons State and national conventions were still held annually during the war years, but they were streamlined to focus on the essential business of the organizations. Non-essential travel was discouraged. Parades relied on local participants. Field competitions were not held at the national conventions in any of those four years; most states did the same. Thanks, never got a real handle on what was done on national level during the war years. Know some kind of state convention was held in PA but have to check if VFW or AL. Undaunted by rain, VFW held their field contest a day later than scheduled at the state convention in Uniontown. You would be interested to know that the senior title went to Hanover post 2506. The 1942 Legion state convention only offered parade competition.

Have to check my notes but think Hanover AL corps missed one year due to a polio outbreak in their home county. More things change the more they stay the same. To diminish 2021 when we didn't have a 2020 sounds.........counterproductive. The sun doesn't revolve around BD or SC. At least it shouldn't. IMO as a result, both get asterisks. It has nothing to do with SCV or BD. It has everything to do with situations that are outside of the norm for this activity. 2020 champion: Blue Devils* 2021 champion: Blue Devils** * = There was no show, but BD would have won if they had been there. ** - The show was not scored, and BD was not there, but if it was and they were, they would have won. 3

Is that like Westshoremen listed as 1978 and 1979 AL Senior champs? Won at New Orleans in 1979 and 1979 was in Hawaii IIRC so no corps show. 😜

The drum corps contest was held August 19th, infamously ending in a tie for first place between Long Island Kingsmen and Sky Ryders. No senior corps entered this contest. Edit: 1973 was the year the Legion held their national convention in Hawaii, effectively cancelling the drum corps contests since only one corps made plans to attend. Does this mean the NCAA should do the same thing and have the Duke "Blue Devils" declared the champion for Men's BB with an *? I believe the last NCAA men's BB champions (Virginia "Cavaliers") might have something to say about it.
