Why the hell does participating in drum corps feel so good?

Recommended Posts

Ever since I marched Music City in 2018, it sometimes feels like I am a recovering drug addict trying to chase the same high I got from the drugs I used to do. I understand the nature of the activity and how unique and circumstantial an environment like drum corps is, but I still wonder what I kind of lifestyle I can live to feel as good physically and mentally I did that summer. Better yet, is there way other than ideal healthy living conditions to feel that good, that happy?

As a fan, not a participant, your feelings are the main reason I support the young people who go after this activity.  I can't think of anything else available to those up through the age of 22 that provides such powerful benefits.  My suggestion?  Do everything you can to participate again.  It's worth it and I'm convinced you'll be a better person and a better servant-leader for the experience.  Good luck and God bless.

Working harder than you ever thought you could physicaly. Learning things faster than you ever had to mentally. caring about someting so deeply emotionally. Evolving as a person. Evolving as a performer. Making friendships and memories that will last a life time. I have no idea what you're talking about. 🙂

there's no feeling like taking a bent piece of metal, a thing you bang on, some random piece of guard equipment and using these things to bring people to their feet.

Its why many of us did the activity, and many perform onstage years after we've aged out.
