Can we discuss Summer?

I never marched or worked with a corps.

We're now in March.

I'm a logistics oriented person.

So I was wondering,at what point do corps normally have things like housing, transportation, food purchase contracts, volunteers, etc. in place for an upcoming season ?

i talked to someone today who said a very popular discussion is to have corps kind of take the DCA model....bus into the show, get off, warm up, perform, go back home. could make for some long bus rides depending on where they have shows

If it were entirely up to corps, it would be as early as possible.  They want to lock up everything before ST even starts.  But there are always unanswered questions with TEPs and housing that creep right into the season.  It's definitely not what corps admins prefer -- it's just a reality DCI corps face every season.

i think housing be wherever corps set up camp, and they'll bus to places. Unless hotels are involved, schools are out

The year that finals were in College Park, Md., I was the tour director for Spirit of Atlanta, and housing was so difficult in the DC metro area that we didn't have finals week housing until about two hours AFTER our prelims performance. Not at all a dig at DCI, who was responsible for finding Championships housing for all the corps, but it's just the way it is in some areas. And that was two decades ago.

that year had a ton of issues. i believe the show site change didn't help

I think this was from Genesis.  I find it hard to believe Music City would do Texas as their only regional tour.  And I can't find any mention of those dates on MCDC's FB page.  Here's Genesis' graphic: 156494480_265923178413253_5477992235194443248_n.jpg?_nc_cat=105&ccb=3&_nc_sid=aee45a&_nc_ohc=FaIMV0Uh27MAX9MuCh0&_nc_ad=z-m&_nc_cid=0&_nc_ht=scontent.xx&tp=7&oh=14a4d9187444f260ff58e810a06a6d78&oe=6061AD79

You’re correct. Music City’s announcement was simply “We Will Return” with no specifics. The two were pretty close to each other in my newsfeed.

The poster asked what happens in a "normal" season -- not what might happen this summer (which is hardly going to be a "season") .

It is a set of Domino's. Before you can really look at housing you need someone who will host the show and a place so the corps know where to go. Normally the show dates are finalized in Jan and Feb so corps can begin filling in housing details. Corps who have been doing similar schedules for the past 20 years have networks of past housing sites and Alumni who work in school bands and often don't need assistance from the show host. This year though I think there is going to be a lot more reliance on the hosts as the Covid has thrown a major wrench into the old system.   Until I see show dates announced I am not too confident that a tour will happen.

Right now Corps are normally also making sure they have bus and truck drivers, the drivers are probably the most most important part of the marchers safety and having the right drivers who understand DCI is vital.

Ok- I did some math:

Pacific Crest:  30 hr drive to Indy; 20 hrs to San Antonio, 32 hrs to Atlanta

Carolina Crown:  9 hrs to Indy, 18 hrs to San Antonio, 4 hrs to Atlanta

Troopers:  18 Hrs to Indy, 18 hrs to San Antonio, 24 hrs to Atlanta

Boston Crusaders:  14 hrs to Indy, 31 hrs to San Antonio, 17 hrs to Atlanta

All of these times are from Google Maps, & is drive time only, not including any stops.

San Antonio & Atlanta were picked as general  'Texas' & 'South' locations; exact distance will  depend on what venues are used.

Long bus rides indeed.

I lived in DC area at time - the show site moved 8 miles from 'The Team Formerly Known as the Washington Redskins' stadium in Landover MD to Univ Maryland in College Park.  DC traffic is horrible, but I don't see how venue change impacted the bigger picture of Corps housing (FWIW Madison was at a HS 3 miles from my house in Virginia)

Let’s throw in change of drivers needed on long distance trips like these. No idea what interstate regulations are anymore. For PA to New Orleans we had at least one change.
