And on Reddit there are allusions to a Midwest 'Combine', with Cavaliers, Phantom, Blue Stars, Colts, & perhaps others who will do day trips to performance locations, but return to home base for overnights. I’ve heard, but maybe outdated now, that a corps would have the option to be judged and scored for their own use but scores would not be announced and there would be no competition. Band and Choral directors school districts may use their music performance assessments as an evaluation tool. If your group gets a Superior, then the director adds to their evaluation.
