REOPENING PLANS & THE DCI 2021 "CELEBRATION TOUR"

Recommended Posts

With the Mayor De Blasio's announcement today of plans for New York to "fully open" by July 1st or Governor Cuomo's statement of possibly opening sooner, what improvements will be made to the COVID-19 protocols as the other states start their reopening plans?  Do we add more capacity to the 'Bridge Tour' stadiums & add more capacity to Lucas Oil for the DCI "Celebration Events" in August?  #MarchOn

Lucas Oil was limited to 22% capacity for the NCAA Basketball Tournament in March/April.  Based on the vaccine rate & if cases stabilize/subside, I think they'll be able to add more seating capacity & hopefully open up the warm-up areas such Military Park.

It all depends on what Indiana / Indianapolis decrees. Michigan is tying opening at various levels to vaccination rates.

The latest info that I can find is from the "Visit Indy" site that shows they have increased sports & entertainment venues to 50% capacity.

The Indianapolis 500 will allow 135k spectators which they say is 40% of the 250k grandstand seating with a total capacity of 400k. (I guess they split the difference @ 337,500 x .40 = 135,000?)

Big question will be is...Does 50% mean the entire arena or the 1 side DCI uses....quite different

With DCI using only 1 side will that be cut in 1/2 to be distant enough? When you cut off 1/2 the arena I'm not sure pacing then in on 1 side will be counted the same way

You'd have to take the Lucas Oil total capacity of 70k divided by 2 = 35k for the home side.  Then .50 x 35k = 17,500 if it stayed at the 50% limit.

As we were discussing a few days ago in another thread, Luca Oil does have a safety protocol page & they discuss their air filtration system as well as the window/roof options.  But it was stated earlier that DCI would not want the open roof option.

https://www.colts.com/game-day/know-before-you-go

The stadium is equipped with hospital-grade air filters and provides 24/7 air circulation. The total air supply and outdoor air ventilation for Lucas Oil Stadium are set for each event based on the specific event requirements and outdoor weather conditions. As such, the stadium roof and window will be open when weather and other operational conditions permit. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned to Colts social media the morning of each game to find out if the roof will be open or closed.
