I was pretty clear about who I was disparaging. A handful of toxic posters on here hardly represent dcp as a whole or dci fandom as a whole, thank goodness. Wishing nothing but positive thoughts for BD as they navigate through this, and looking forward to their next production. 🙂 2

In the case of the Blue Devils I think people forget (or maybe do not know) that they run a very large organization. It's not just the A corps. If you take the A corps out of it (where many of the members come from all over) what you have is a mostly local/regional organization that services a lot of kids. They have the B and C corps, Diabalo Wind Symphony, Yamaha School of Music, winter drum lines and guard, a special needs guard, and they run a lot of educational programs and clinics. I bet they have 350+ kids in the region who partake in various services offered, and that's NOT counting the A corps. By staying local and not taking part in this DCI exhibition tour the Blue Devils are re-building their local organization and tending to the local and regional youth they offer services to. They are not abandoning anyone. The members that marched the A corps who may have had a year or two left to march are certainly talented enough to do so. There was plenty of opportunity. 5

Take a look at the 990's of BD and SCV over the past 10-12 years. There have been multiple seasons where they actually made money. Not all of the gambling profits were spent on summer tours. It's almost identical to governmental revenue accounting... you spend based on what you think you will bring in. Some years you have a budget surplus, most years you run a deficit. Now, if you are talking about just revenue and expenses from the touring unit... yeah, that's pretty much guaranteed break even at best.

As far as abandoning two years of age outs, I think not. The overall organization is mostly local. Sure the A-Corps 2022 auditions will be up, most non-local, reloading for another DCI championship run. 1

Boss Anova
Since the Blue Devils formation, they have had a seamless, consistent reputation for organizational excellence. I believe most here would have to also agree that the Blue Devils have never really faced severe organizational challenges and adversity before. This is not to say that adversity and challenge to their very existence would not be something that they do not know how to go thru , and come out the other side, in great shape. It is just an acknowledgement that the Blue Devils these last 2 years are being tested as an organization like never before in their existence as a Drum Corps. I see no reason that the Blue Devils can not rise up to this challenge that the unexpected pandemic has caused them . Its likely they will come thru this competitive inactivity and financial challenges of the last 2 seasons in great shape. But the adversity and organizational challenge here to the Blue Devils Drum Corps is undeniably not something they have faced before like this.
