Get over it DCI will become a division within BOA! Every one said the same thing about electronics and now its widely accepted.  It will happen and with in short time. It may be the end of drum corps as we now know it!

This could become.... "the end of Drum Corps as we know it ".    This could be a standing headline too. One that has been uttered by some folks pretty much every year since the end of WW2.😀

Still thinking it would be nice if any corps, who may have a great show this year, has a full run through with paid judges.  See if it would be good enough to bring back next year.  The majority of DCP followers are loving what PR is doing and this show, especially the brass, is almost a carbon copy of 03.

Nice thought, but DCI judges don't provide scores based upon a 1 Corps performance. The scores and placements are judged relative to others in the show. This is why we will see Corps sometimes get higher scores when the mix of Corps is missing other peer groups, but when head to head takes place, the score/ placements can dip. An example would be looking at the 12th place score of any year at Semi's. Then look at that 12th place Corps score at Finals, next night. Typically, their score went down. Did they perform worse on Finals Night ? Not necessarily. Then why the dip in score ? Easy to explain. The mix of Corps on Finals Night was much smaller, but much better, than the larger,  more broader mix in Semi's

Few of these Corps, including Phantom Regiment, will put out shows, attire, props, visual designs,  in 2022 that they are doing here in 2021. For one, the size and mix of sections will be quite different. Crown had 184 on the field, 57-60 Guard in exhibition performance here in 2021. They  clearly wont have that many on the field in scored competition next season. The limit is 154.  Some of the Corps here in performance will have unbalanced sections, ie 72-94 brass, but 28-33 Guard. They will return to more balanced sections for certain in 2022, with Guards far more integrated into the shows visually than what we will see  from Corps in exhibition this abbreviated shortened exhibition season. Thus, for a host of reasons, they'd be no rationale to bring in " paid judges " to judge any single Corps here in shortened exhibition seasons as these are not the intricate and more demanding shows Corps will put on the field in 2022 when they will have far more time to learn skill sets and practice together in real time, instead of virtually through all of the winter/ spring because of the pandemic.

My suggestion  would be just to enjoy whatever it is Corps will be able to provide to us here in the summer of 2021. Its remarkable that these Corps were able to get students together to learn and later for them to perform for us. I'm grateful for whatever it is they can do here in 2021, and wont compare what they do to anything at all we might see/ hear from any of these Corps when judges come back in 2022 to judge all these Corps in field competitions among one another.
