I guess I am just surprised that anyone is going to criticize any show this season. I have to admit that during the darkest days of the pandemic, I found myself at times wondering if I would ever see live drum corps ever again. Each corps has had to engage is some serious soul searching in the past 18 months to contemplate the way forward for their organizations. The fact that this corps is out there with what looks like a full corps to me and is performing an enjoyable show is commendable. Keep it up guys, and to heck with the keyboard commandos on dcp.

that's exactly where I am

This show. Just. Wow. Goosebumps. These kids are bringing it. They know they are working on quality music and visual, and it shows. I’m already excited about 2022 even before this one reaches the finish line. As a PR fan, this is what I’ve needed since Turandot. Bravo! Bravo!

Agreed. Turandot was special. Ever since then, the design staff has sent Phantom for a long walk in the woods.

The design this year is what it is. I’m not going to degrade anyone for design this year under the circumstances. I am assuming that the staff this year is really using the show to help reinforce/re-teach fundamentals in preparation for next year. Is there an over abundance of guard members? Half of them seem to be prop attendants and not much more

The focus this year (in my opinion) is on the wonderful music, which is exactly where it should be.

Which brings me to the point I am hoping that Phantom’s staff will follow next year Adam’s after, even if they don’t read this (and they won’t). Please get back (competitively) to being Phantom. Don’t run from your identity, embrace it. Give us that rich, classical music with artful, clever (but not too cute) story telling. But please, no more demon-queen puppets, porn soundtracks, new-age garbage, or any other weirdness that has plagued Phantom for almost the last decade (I felt for the members). You aren’t BD or Vanguard—and you don’t need to be. You are Phantom. Be Phantom. Please.

I totally understand and agree with much of your viewpoint. And a lot of it supports my concerns as well. I loved this show in 2003, competitively it wouldn’t hold in 2021. This corps has been having design issues over the past several seasons and I just wish the staff would’ve pushed themselves into 2022. now would’ve been a perfect time to experiment and push boundaries. There are several corps this summer doing exactly that. I just wish Phantom was one of them. All the corps out there have been thru the hell that was 2020 but only Phantoms design team has basically decided to regurgitate a show design from almost 20 years ago. And that’s why I’m disappointed. Nothing to do with the members.

Wow, this is exactly what many people needed. It's achieving many goals, one of which was NOT to "win dci" this year, nor is that the goal of any corps this year.

Shame on anyone for criticizing anything this year. Congrats to the staff and performers for putting a great, fan-friendly show together in short order.

I hope to see live. I get the sense this hornline has some power!
