Old Corps Guy
I mentioned in a previous thread that my first exposure as a teenager to "Live" classical and jazz was via drum corps. We all know that the keepers of classical are Regiment and SCV over the decades. However, many others brought some great classical music to the field. Below are my top 10. Feel free to add your own or provide comments. 1. 1989 - Phantom Regiment (New World Symphony - Dvorak) 2. 1991 - Star of Indiana (Roman Festivals - Respighi) 3. 2015 - Carolina Crown (Symphony No. 9 - Beethoven) 4. 1996 - Phantom Regiment (Symphony No. 5 - Shostakovich) 5. 1995 - Cavaliers (The Planets "Mars" - Holst) 6. 2008 - Phantom Regiment (Spartacus - Khachaturian) 7. 2007 - Phantom Regiment (Firebird Suite Finale - Stravinsky) 8. 1987 - SCV (Pictures at an Exhibition - Mussorgsky) 9. 1987 - Cadets (Appalachian Spring - Copland) 10. 2012 - Carolina Crown (Fanfare for the Common Man - Copland) Edited July 9, 2021 by Old Corps Guy
jthomas666
I might swap The Cavies & Holst or Crown's Beethoven with PR93's Fire of Eternal Glory, and maybe swap PR96's finale with their opener from that year, but regardless, you've got a solid list.

Lance
1993 Star has to be on any list for me. Those are some serious classical pieces by Barber and Bartok, and the arrangements were spectacular. 1996 Phantom was full of amazing Shostakovich pieces, and one of my favorite brass books ever, so that has to be on my list. 2004 SCV Scheherezade or however you spell it. 1999 SCV Glass and Barber. nod to 1998 BD's sections of Tchaikovsky. I actually liked the straight Tchaikovsky sections of the show more than the West Side Story blends, which is weird to say about BD for me. lots of others i cant think of right now for sure. Brian Tuma
Blue Knights’ 2008 front ensemble feature of Ravel’s Jeux d’eau is a piece I felt went completely unnoticed by the audience. It was magical and one of those gutsy moments of programming for the understated sense of intimacy it created.
hughesmr
I'd definitely add 81/82 PR Spartacus to the list (and yes, 2008 can stay). Cadets 1988 Copland Symphony No 3 was pretty on point too. Edited July 10, 2021 by hughesmr
jjeffeory
No list would be complete without Star 1990's Belshazzar's Feast.
karuna
Crown 2010 Mahler 2. They spent SO much time on this and much of it was in the "pre-show" and therefore not credited. But it was absolutely brilliant. SCV 2009 Appalachian Spring (yeah Cadets did it first but SCV did it properly) SCV 1999,2000 Barber and Bartok And @jjeffeoryjust listed Star 1990. So I'll add Star 1991 Respighi. 2 2
