1990 Phantom Regiment Saint-Saens Symphony #3, the Organ Symphony, has always been on my list of favorite symphonic pieces performed by a drum corps. Actually, their entire 1990 Saint-Saens show with Carnival of the Animals and Bacchanale is wonderful.

I struggled on this one. I love the Organ Symphony and wished they did more with it in their most recent offering.

Another moment that cannot be forgotten is Blue Stars 2016 arrangement of the Liebestod from “Tristan und Isolde.” I was skeptical that any drum corps could pull off such a piece but Blue Stars did it.

I loved Le Reve.  Doing this arrangement was just one of the reasons.

So many to choose from...

In a loose order...

Phantom Regiment 1996 (Sublime Shostakovich in Defiant Heart)

Star of Indiana 1990 (Belshazzar's Feast)

Phantom Regiment 2007 (On Air - Glass, Delibes, Prokoviev, Stravinsky)

Phantom Regiment 1989 (New World Symphony)

Santa Clara Vanguard 2004 (Scheherazade)

Phantom Regiment 1997 (Wagner's The Ring)

Phantom Regiment 2000 (Master's of Mystique - Debussy, Schoenberg, Stravinsky)

Phantom Regiment 1995 (Adventures under a Darkened Sky - Incredible Rachmaninoff, lousy recording quality year for DCI)

Phantom Regiment 2001 (Virtuoso - Bartok & Shostakovich)

Phantom Regiment 2006 (Faust)

Star of Indiana 1991 (Roman Images - Respighi)

Blue Knights 2006 (Piano Concerto by Samuel Barber - I know some didn't like BK's dark years, but I loved it)

Carolina Crown 2012 (The Common Good - Copland)

Santa Clara Vanguard 2009 (Appalachian Spring)

Blue Knights 2007 (Dark Dances - Piano Concerto #1 and Symphony #10 by Shostakovich)

Santa Clara Vanguard 1998 (Copland the Modernist)

Phantom Regiment 2012 (Turandot, by Puccini)

Santa Clara 1990 (Carmen by Bizet)

Carolina Crown 2008 (Finis - like the greatest hits of Classical composers!)

Just my personal preferences, and shows I listen to over & over again...

lots of phantom regiment on here and deservedly so

i actually really enjoyed the classical transcriptions in their 2000 show.  i remember seeing it live at quarterfinals for the first time, and i was asking myself "how is this not a top 6 show"?

and i'll also second bk 2007.  i get why it placed where it placed, but that brass book is still thrilling for me to listen to, particularly the low brass writing.

Great list.  Can't see one that I disagree with on your list.

I think that Regiment 2000 was a top 3 music show (not saying it scored that high, as it's hard to get that high of marks when you come in as a corps in 6th-8th place, BUT, it was a visual mess all the way around.  It's certainly one of my all time favorites to listen to.  Could have been a great show with a better visual program....

I don't think it was a visual mess.  I think the drill was simplistic in comparison to other corps - For most of the show except the closer.

The rotating triangle in Rite of Spring,  where parts broke off as it rotated, was very nice and so well done.

The guard was very good.  Very strong.

2008 Blue Stars warm up was a performance to listen to over and over.   Just so hauntingly beautiful. To this day I get chills up and down my spine hearing it.

What an entrance!

To this day, I think that is my favorite Blue Stars show.
