I don't begrudge current mm's access to electronics, or 3 valve instruments or even build up categories as opposed to tics, but I do ENVY the AIR CONDITIONED buses..I would have given my left nut to travel with A/C..lol...peace

I don’t have a left nut as far as I know but I would love to have gotten off the school buses.

In these times, it is perfectly allowable for it to be virtual.

We had a metal one in 1978 but it was definitely not enough to water down a full corps.  I remember drinking a lot of bugs that were floating around in it but I was so thirsty I didn’t give a ####.

We attempted Gatorade once....only ONCE. I think they read the ratio wrong and did 1 scoop for 5 gallons of water. We DID fill a cooler with ice water in DCA and toss towels and squirt bottles in it. The towels were gross, but in the Atlanta summer heat, you don't give a flying, hairy rats ###. And bugs are tasty (not really,) and if you add up the whole tour, all of the eaten bugs is probably about equal to a peanut butter sandwich. So hey, got to march AND got a free sandwich!

These posts are forcing me into a different kind of a 12 step program.

There was a moment in 1978 Oakland Crusaders. We were somewhere in Kansas and the temp was 100+ degrees. We went for a water break, and all the sops on the number 2 side of the field decided we would take a drink of water, but not swallow, since we knew we were going to run some of the drill in the drum solo. We marched the drill, and the drill writer started to walk to us and we struck a fountain pose, and spit out our water in sync. The drill writer just turned away from us and cracked up.

Good times.

I ate a lot of bugs so yeah.  They flew into my mouth during shows.  Just swallowed it down. 🤷‍♀️

Speaking of bugs….does anyone else remember marching the show in LaCrosse?

The back sideline was almost swamplike and when you looked at the stands the bugs were so thick they dimmed the lights! Couldn’t help inhaling a few of them during the show.

Never marched there.  Went to the show up there a few years ago.  Whitewater was bad, too.  There’s a swamp on the other side of the stadium.  I’ve never been there without being eaten alive.
